After trying all of the vet recommended prescription diets with no luck, I did some research to find other foods to try. I purchased a 40 oz bag of dry Wellness healthy Weight and one can of Wellness in every flavor. The ingredients in the dry food are: Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Rice, Ground Barley, Ground Rice, Whitefish Meal, Natural Chicken Flavor, Tomato Pomace, Chicken liver, Oat Fiber, Cranberries, Olive Oil, Chicory Root Extract, Cranberry Extract Powder, Cranberry Fiber, Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Thiamine Mononitrate, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B-12 Supplement), Choline Chloride, Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Manganese Sulfate, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Chondroitin Sulfate, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Dried Kelp, l-Carnitine, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Enterococcus Faecium, Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Taurine, Rosemary Extract.
As soon as I got home I mixed some of the wet food with the cats’ current wet food. They loved it! I then mixed some dry and offered it. For the next week I noticed that they would eat the food I was taking them off of and not touch the Wellness until they were hungry in the middle of the night. Hershel 9 lbs and Chester now 20 lbs like all of the canned flavors except for Beef and Chicken. I do not know how the dry food is going to work out, but I am going to stick with it for a few months to see.
UPDATE
Hershel and Chester have now been eating Wellness dry food for 5 months. For a treat I put about a dozen kibbles of Kit n' Kaboodle in with the dry. They split a 5.5 oz can of wet food per day too. Chester now weighs 16.6 lbs down from a little over 24 lbs a year and a half ago. Hershel has stayed between 8 and 9 lbs.
